Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
